I like Paul Muldoon. Saw him last week and have been reading his book Horse Latitudes and I have come to the conclusion that I like him. I know I didn't get many of his jokes, but at times just his inflection was funny. Not to mention, who doesn't love an Irish man. I'm not going to lie, I did wish he was younger and hotter, no offense Paul. Probably my favorite of everything he read was the lyrics of "Sideman". It was so cute, so good. Maybe I liked it so much cause I'm a girl, or because it's getting so close to Valentine's Day, but it wasn't just about being in love, in fact it was more about being a friend, which I think everyone can appreciate. I miss my friends. I also liked the one about his sister going to confessional during the Cuban missile crisis. I thought it was kind of funny that they had a mandatory confessional, but I guess that's Catholics for you. There were two named after Porcupines which I didn't get. He read them rather fast and they were both rather short, all I could gather was that the porcupines were women- I think.
In other cultural growth, I watched three movies this week. One, Me Without You, an old favorite (which I think everyone should watch) and the other two were Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood, and Highway with Jake Gyllenhaal. Gran Torino was good if nothing else. Not dazzling or perfect or politically correct, but good, and I think people get too caught up in the details. I think people do that alot, and if they could just get their heads around the fact that not everyone's perfect, they could enjoy their lives and each other alot more. Highway was funny and different, I can understand why not alot of people liked it or saw it, but Jake Gyllenhaal is amazing no matter what, I think the movie proves that more than anything.
I hope this is a page's worth and I hope it's interesting enough. I'm not looking forward to dissecting Hamlet again, this will be the third time, although I don't hate either of the movies. I also am not looking forward to reading Rosencrantz and Guildenstern again, not even the movie was much better. That is my opinion. It is also my opinion that existentialism is over rated. (Except for that song by Straylight Run, but I'm starting to think they didn't even know what existentialism was and just liked the word.)
